Joining the team here at Northwest Women’s Health Care in February 2009 was a very exciting time for me. I actually grew up in Kalispell, and after being away from this wonderful community for 14 years I was ready to come back to the Flathead Valley. I brought with me knowledge for the care of women along their life cycles and a passion to help empower each woman to strive for health and wellness.
My career in nursing began in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Carroll College in Helena, MT. I knew right away in nursing school that I was interested in women’s health, especially pregnancy. After graduation I started caring for women and their newborn babies, and soon was a labor and delivery nurse. There was a huge teaching aspect in these areas and I really thrived on that. Over the next 10 years I was able to move around the western U.S. working in labor and delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care nurseries, Pediatric’s, and a large Infertility clinic. Along this path I started having a desire to be more involved in the care of the whole person, specifically the care of women. I then attended the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, earned a Master of Science in Nursing, and in 2006 I became a board certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner. This was a very fulfilling next step in my nursing career journey.
As a nurse practitioner I have enjoyed getting to know patients on a more personal level than the hospital setting allowed. Being able to help women learn about their bodies, health maintenance, and illness prevention is exciting to me. Before becoming a part of NWWHC I was practicing in an urban clinic in Denver, CO which allowed me to see a vast variety of patients and situations. I have been fortunate to become certified in the MammaCare system of clinical breast examination and to perform colposcopy of the female lower genital tract. I also have a particular passion for performing gynecologic and obstetric diagnostic ultrasound.
Being a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses, helps me to keep up with new and important information in the world of medicine. Being a part of the Flathead Valley community again and enjoying all that it has to offer is a dream come true. I feel honored to be able to work with you, our amazing patients, and to help you along your life's journey.
