Cathleen Simensen, APRN, WHNP-BC

Providing complete and individualized health care for the total woman throughout her life cycle is my personal and professional goal. In 1996, I joined NWWHC and enjoy the opportunity to work with such a wonderful and talented group in fulfilling this goal. I am committed to providing the most

up -to-date care and information to each woman in a gentle, compassionate manner. I believe in patient education for the prevention of illness and disease which allows us to be pro-active partners in your health care.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976 from the Montana State University, Bozeman, MT. For the next 13 years, I worked in a small rural Montana hospital as the charge nurse and then in a general surgeon/family practice clinic and working with the surgeon at the same hospital. I was fortunate to work with two physician/surgeons and two Nurse Practitioners as their only nurse. I provided all the care including x-ray for this busy practice. I taught Lamaze birthing classes for the community in the evenings. All of this rural health experience was invaluable.

In 1988, we moved to the Flathead Valley and I worked in an OB/GYN clinic and Kalispell Diagnostic Clinic with a focus on cardiology, oncology and internal medicine. Wanting to provide more complete care, I returned to school to pursue nurse practitioner education in women’s health care, which I completed in 1992 and was certified by the National Certification Corporation in 1993. I am licensed by the State Board of Nursing and have my prescriptive authority.

In 1997, I attended training in Dallas, Texas and began providing OB/GYN ultrasound in the office for our patients.  Keeping abreast of the most current medical practices and maintaining my certification as a nurse practitioner requires continuing education through reading journals,

as well as attending conferences and seminars as much as possible each year. There is something new and exciting to learn in medicine and provide to my patients.

I was born and raised in Wolf Point, MT, am married to Tom and we have two grown children, Toby and Mari. We have always enjoyed all the cultural and outdoor activities the Flathead Valley has to offer, especially summers on Flathead Lake on our boat.

We are members of Northridge Lutheran Church and are active in the community.  I enjoy volunteer work with Wings, Save a Sister, Turn the Flathead Pink and Susan Komen walks in Helena.  I worked with First Descents Camp for young adults with cancer for over ten years.

I continue to be active in local, state and national Advanced Practice Nurses groups, serving as secretary/treasurer with the Montana Advanced Practice Nurse Association for four years. I continue to work on legislative efforts to improve patient access to care and was awarded the Mary Munger Award in 1996 from the Montana Nurses Association for leadership in legislation.  In 2013 I was honored to be chosen as the Montana Nurse Practitioner of the Year and was also chosen to be on the cover of the Montana Woman magazine with the featured article.

I have experience with patients of all ages with a strong family practice, surgery, women’s health, cardiac, oncology, and internal medicine background. Through the years I have seen many changes in health care and I am very dedicated to health care of women in a primary care setting. It is my personal belief that honesty, hard work, integrity, a sense of humor in a professional manner, and the best medical care available are the keys to excellence in health care.
